Dow Jones Sustainability Indices
BAT scored 81 (out of 100) in the 2023 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (19 December 2023). Based on the S&P Global ESG Scores, BAT was selected for inclusion in the DJSI European Index. We have been included in the DJSI indices for 22 consecutive years.
CDP
In 2023, we achieved A-, A- and A-, respectively, in the CDP Climate Change, Water Security and Forests assessments.

Workforce Disclosure Initiative
Our 2023 WDI submission received a score which placed us in the top 20% of participating companies. BAT received special mentions in the ‘Workforce Action’ and ‘Value Chain Data’ categories.

Bloomberg Gender Equality Index
BAT’s ongoing drive to sustain a diverse, inclusive culture was recognised with inclusion in the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) at the first time of participating. The GEI measures gender equality performance globally across: leadership & talent pipeline, equal pay & gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and external brand.

BAT received an ESG Risk Rating of 31.1 from Sustainalytics and was assessed to be at high risk of experiencing material financial impacts from ESG factors.

FT Europe's Climate Leaders
BAT was named in April 2024 as a Climate Leader for the fourth successive year by the Financial Times in its annual European listing. BAT's reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions intensity and our CDP score of A-, placed us in the top 3% of companies evaluated.
Sustainability gold at Transform Awards
Our world number one1 global vapour brand Vuse won the gold award at the prestigious Transform Awards Europe 2022 for ‘Best Use of Sustainable Packaging’ in recognition of the work done on Vuse pack design with our WPP agency Landor & Fitch.
Sustainable Product Award for Vuse
In December 2021, Vuse, our global No. 1 vaping brand, won the Sustainable Product Award in the prestigious 2021 SEAL Business Sustainability Awards. SEAL recognises innovative and impactful products that are ‘purpose-built for a sustainable future’.
S&P Global’s 2022 sustainability award
BAT has again been recognised as a sustainability leader after being listed once more in S&P Global's 2022 Sustainability Yearbook , achieving the highest award of a “gold class” distinction.
Diversity leader in the Financial Times Diversity Leaders report
BAT was named as a Diversity Leader 2024 by the Financial Times. BAT was recognised as Diversity Leader also in 2020 and 2021.
The prestigious FT Diversity Leaders report recognises the top 850 companies across 16 European countries that have achieved a diverse and inclusive workplace.

We have been accredited as a Global Top Employer for seven consecutive years, acknowledging our commitment to providing best-in-class working environments and career opportunities.
ISS
Best-in-class ISS Score - BAT received an ISS Environment and Social Quality Score of 1. Scores are ranked on a scale of 1 to 10. An environment quality score of 1 indicates better environmental disclosure.
BAT was awarded a Prime Status in June 2024. Companies are awarded Prime Status if the overall ESG Corporate Rating letter grade meets or exceeds the industry-specific Prime threshold defined by ISS ESG’s Industry Classification Matrix.

Double UK Product of the Year
BAT won twice at the annual Product of the Year Awards – the largest survey of product innovation in the UK. The Vuse ePod2 won in the ‘Vape & Heated Tobacco Products’ category while our modern oral brand Velo landed top prize in the ‘Nicotine Pouches’ section.
National and Global Equality Standard
In 2021, we were the first in our industry to achieve UK National Equality Standard and Global Equality Standard accreditation. Both are rigorous benchmarks for diversity and inclusion.
A best place to work for LGBTQ equality in the U.S.
For the third consecutive year, Reynolds American Inc., the BAT Group's U.S. subsidiary, and its companies scored 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2022 Corporate Equality Index.

BAT received a rating of A (on a scale of AAA to CCC) in the MSCI ESG Ratings assessment.

Vigeo Eiris, a rating and research agency, evaluates organisations’ integration of ESG factors into their strategies, operations and management .We achieved a score of 48% (up by 1pp from 2020) in its latest rating.
Disability Confident Leader
BAT was recognised with the highest status in a major UK government-backed accreditation scheme for the way we attract, develop and support people with disabilities and long-term conditions.
Race at Work Charter
We are signatories to the UK Race at Work Charter for supporting racial equality in the workplace.
Corporate Equality Index
In 2022, our U.S. and Mexico businesses scored 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index for LGBT+ workplace equality.
Women in STEM awards (WISE)
In 2022, we achieved a Rank 1 certification in the UK for our Science, Technology & Engineering strategy.
Gartner Supply Chain Top 25
Our Supply Network Operations was recognised in the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 global rankings for the third year in a row.
- Based on Vype/Vuse estimated value share from Recommended Retail Price (RRP) in measured retail for vapour (i.e. total vapour category value in retail sales) in the USA, Canada, France, UK, Germany. These five markets cover an estimated 77% of global vapour closed system net turnover (NTO), calculated in June - July 2021.
