BAT’s ongoing digital transformation has been recognised with a prestigious award.

Our route-to-market initiative, Project Next, has landed a prize at the US CIO 100 Awards, which recognises organisations for their achievements in technology and innovation.
Project Next aims to transform our route-to-market operations in our Americas and Sub-Saharan Africa (AmSSA) region through innovative digital solutions.

Since its launch in Q1 2020, the project has delivered impressive results, including:

  •  A 20% increase in digital business-to-business net turnover for AmSSA
  •  Delivering efficiencies and additional demand via a mobile app for 2,000 direct sales trade reps.
  •  A 30% increase in speed-to-market delivery in pilot areas after partnering with logistics ‘crowd-shipping’ start-up Uello in Brazil. This allows us to deliver products to both urban and remote parts of the country, by leveraging Uello’s wide network of vehicles.

Luciano Comin, BAT’s AmSSA Regional Director, said: “Digital technology plays a key role in increasing our efficiency. I am truly very proud of the external recognition we received for this transformative work and look forward to accelerating and scaling up the digital solutions we’ve rolled out.”

The CIO 100 is now in its 34th year and Marinaldo Gomes, IDT Project Lead, will accept the award on behalf of BAT at the annual CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony in August.

  •  Our Director of Digital and Information, Marina Bellini was interviewed by Global CIO Magazine earlier this year. In the interview  she discusses the importance of diversity in tech and the role of digital in our #ABetterTomorrow transformation.
